The Himalayas – Upper Mustang
“Manaslu” – I answered everyone before the trip to Nepal when they asked me which trek I would do. That was the recommendation of a friend who lived in Nepal, and I adopted that recommendation as my own plan, even though I had no plan, as usual. I did not go to Nepal for Manaslu trek or any other specific trek. I went to Nepal like to every other destination so far – because my heart was drawn there and I was keenly interested to know what was waiting for me there, what I had to experience there. My travels are an integral part of my life, and it doesn’t make much sense to plan life.
So no wonder Manaslu went out of focus very soon after I arrived in Nepal. The journey took me in the complete opposite direction. I ended up exactly where I would have wanted to be and where I usually end up when I don’t force things, but completely surrender to the journey – among the most remote, sparsely populated and inaccessible parts of the country, although I managed to do a couple of well-known, less demanding tourist treks, too.
This gallery will take you through almost all the places I’ve trekked in the Himalayas, with a guide (when required) and independently, in this order: Upper Upper Mustang (I), Mardi Himal Base Camp, Machapuchare Base Camp & Annapurna Base Camp (II), Rukum (III) and Dolpa (Shey Phoksundo) (IV). I would like to say that I would take you through all the experiences I have had, but you know that is impossible. Some of the most important parts of this trip to Nepal, one of the most emotionally and spiritually enriching trips to date, were not captured on camera because it was not possible to do so. I hope you enjoy it anyway :).
